Simultaneous Membership Program
The ROTC/SMP is a voluntary officer training program designed to increase the number of ROTC officers available for the Reserve Forces Duty. The SMP will place a cadet into an actively drilling (part-time) Army Reserve or Army National Guard unit while participating in ROTC. The commitment is typically one weekend a month and two weeks in the summer. This is in addition to your ROTC commitments.
SMP allows cadets to shadow Army officers at the unit level and put into practice what they’ve learned in program. It also is a great way to experience different officer branches.
Being an SMP cadet does not lock you into the Reserve or National Guard. In fact, SMP participation can make you more competitive for Active Duty by affording you additional OML points.
In order to qualify for SMP, you must be a non-scholarship Cadet or a scholarship contracted Cadet with a Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD) or Minuteman (MM) scholarship from the National Guard/Reserves.
